Brand partnerships

Over many years we have forged strong relationships with some of the worlds leading brands. Working closely with our brand partners allows us to really capture the brand essence and develop products that not only suit the brand but sing its values from base ingredients to packaging.

Following a trip to the USA in 2011, it was evident there hadn’t been quite as much innovation in the bakery sector as there had been in the U.K. Seizing the opportunity, we set out to engage with Hershey – the No.1 US chocolate brand – and using our experience working with other chocolate brands in Europe we set out to fill this gap in the market.

Our role is to drive innovation, assist product development, and design all packaging and sales/marketing material. We will now also be fronting the Hershey brand management at retail level in the US.

To ensure our products get the Hershey seal of approval, they always have the inclusion of Hershey ingredients. We work closely with the Hershey Kitchens in Pennsylvania, as this influences many of our recipes. We manage factory accreditation for our suppliers ensuring Hershey’s high standards are upheld throughout the manufacturing process and Hershey’s brand guidelines dictate the style of our packaging and promotional material. This results in products that win the hearts of Hershey fans across the US.

Phase 1 products, dessert cakes and cookies launched into the market in January 2015 and have proven a great success. We have recently launched muffins and brownies and will continue to develop more exciting products for the Hershey brand.

Acquiring the Hershey license also gave us access to the Reese’s brands. This allowed us to develop a range of Reese’s Peanut Butter dessert cakes and cookies to sit alongside the Hershey range – which also includes the Heath brand.

Working with peanut butter presented it’s own challenges as we had to source specialist manufacturers who can handle peanuts due to allergens.

In addition to the launch of our Hershey cakes and cookies we also launched these products under the Reese’s brand across the US and will soon launch real peanut butter biscuits in the UK – one of the first to the UK market.

In February 2009 Lightbody Ventures was appointed by Disney to develop a range of toddler snacks under the Annabel Karmel toddler snacking range.

Our first step on this development process was to understand and translate the strict nutritional guidelines associated with products that carry the Disney/Annabel Karmel brand. Working within these parameters, our team identified suitable manufacturing partners to assist with the development of these products.

Product quality, texture and flavour are critical in this highly competitive market and we worked closely with all partners to ensure the best product quality was achieved. Pairing the right license with the right product was also of utmost importance and we carried out research which helped us to identify that Mickey and Winnie were the characters best suited to the toddler snacking range.

With 10 products now available, the strong performance and consumer feedback received suggests we’ve set a true benchmark for the industry.

Building on 15 years of success for Thorntons in the bakery sector, we shared our vision for extending the reach of this well-known British chocolate company into the UK biscuit category. We worked closely with the Thorntons team to identify the right product range that not only fit the brand but also maintained its core values, whilst delivering the signature flavour and quality expected by Thorntons customers.

We’re passionate about helping our customers achieve their goals and we source and invest in bespoke manufacturing equipment to achieve our joint vision. Five products were launched into major retailers, with the support of a trade and consumer press campaign to drive maximum awareness with retailers and shoppers. The products are not only performing well in store, but we also recently won The Grocer New Product Award – voted for by consumers and retail industry experts – in the Cakes & Biscuits category for our Double Chocolate Wafer Rolls.

We continue to grow our distribution of this range and successful partnership with Thorntons to deliver further innovation in the coming years.
